History SEAT Leon


The vehicle has its assembly plant at Martorell, Spain. The vehicle is built on the Volkswagen's Group 'A' Platform series. The vehicle is closely related to the Volkswagen Jetta, Audi A3, Volkswagen Bora, Audi TT, Volkswagen Golf Plus, and Volkswagen Gulf.

The SEAT Leon was released in two different versions, Leon MK1 in the year 1999 and the Leon MK2. The Leon Mk1 was built on the Volkswagen Group A4 (PQ34) platform. This model was produced up to 2005 without any further modifications in the design and later in the year 2005, the SEAT Leon MK2 was launched as a predecessor to the SEAT Leon MK1 model.

The initial Leon model was the hatchback model of the SEAT Toledo. The best selling Leon Mk1 was marketed as a cheaper variant and the sportier of the Golf. In order to appear as a sports car, to improve the handling of the vehicle, the car is provided with the firm suspension. The expensive versions are provided with the powerful engines.

The original car produced in the year 1999 came with the options of 1.4 liter 16 valve petrol engine that produces 55 kilo watts of power, 1.6 liter 8-valve producing 77 kilo watts and provided the two variants from the Volkswagen group, 1.8 liter turbocharged power plant and the VR6 engine producing 150 kilo watts.
